UAE FA Backs FIFA Decision, Bubista Nears RS Berkane Move And Egypt U18 Women Continue Historic Run

Monday, August 3, 2026

Hey hey hey, Smashi Sports Fam! 🌟⚽
From FIFA’s latest commercial U-turn to a potential Moroccan coaching move and Egypt’s rising handball generation, there’s plenty happening across sport. The UAE FA has backed FIFA’s decision to drop the FFE plan, Cape Verde head coach Pedro “Bubista” Brito is closing in on RS Berkane, and Egypt’s U18 women’s handball team are one win away from the World Championship quarter-finals.

UAE FA Backs FIFA Decision To Drop FFE Plan

What Is It About
The UAE Football Association has backed FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s decision not to proceed with the FIFA Forward Enterprise plan. UAE FA President Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan said withdrawing the proposal serves the interests of the global football family and helps preserve unity across the game.

Why It Matters
The FFE plan would have created a separate commercial company for parts of FIFA’s business operations, with a minority stake potentially sold to private investors to raise billions for football development. The proposal had raised concerns over governance, transparency and private investment in FIFA’s commercial structure.

What’s Next
Sheikh Hamdan called for future proposals to be carefully considered in a way that benefits football, its fans and member associations. For now, the FIFA Forward Enterprise plan has been dropped, and the UAE FA has publicly supported the decision.

Cape Verde Coach Bubista Nears RS Berkane Move

What Is It About
Cape Verde head coach Pedro “Bubista” Brito is closing in on a move to Moroccan club RS Berkane after a breakthrough in negotiations. Talks had initially stalled because Bubista reportedly wanted to continue leading Cape Verde while also taking charge of Berkane.

Why It Matters
Bubista has overseen the most successful era in Cape Verde’s football history. The 56-year-old guided the Blue Sharks to their first-ever FIFA World Cup qualification and a historic Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final.

What’s Next
If appointed, Bubista would replace Moïne Chaâbani, who recently left RS Berkane to become Tunisia’s new head coach. Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has also been linked with RS Berkane, but his future remains unresolved as talks with Chilean club Colo-Colo continue.

Egypt U18 Women Continue Historic Handball Run

What Is It About
Egypt’s U18 women’s handball team continued their impressive run at the IHF Women’s U18 World Championship in Romania. The Young Pharaohs defeated South Korea 28-27 in the main round after a dramatic late comeback, extending their unbeaten run to four matches.

Why It Matters
Egypt were trailing late in the second half before producing a decisive 6-0 run to snatch the win. The result strengthens their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals and follows a perfect preliminary round, where they topped their group after beating Croatia, France and Fiji.

What’s Next
Egypt now face Slovenia with a quarter-final place on the line. This generation is chasing a historic first medal for Egypt at the IHF Women’s U18 World Championship.
